Delhismartcities.com welcomes the inclusion of 13 more cities into the smart city list, which now has 33 bright cities ready to be transformed. The selected cities are Lucknow, Dharmshala, Warangal, Raipur, Chandigarh, Bhagalpur, New Town Kolkata, Port Blair, Panaji, Ranchi, Imphal, Faridabad, and Agartala. All the selected cities participated in competition to enhance the quality of smart city plans by 25 percent, to become eligible for the selection.
The total investment of Rs 30,229 crore proposed for the 13 cities. In the first original list 20 cities listed with the proposed investment of 50,802. Rai Bareilly and Mathura in Uttar Pradesh Srinagar and Jammu in J&K will be invited to participate in the smart city competition and one city from each state is selected according to the quality of their smart city plans.
Seven capitals of different state left out from the smart city plan-Shimla, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Patna, Naya Raipur, Amaravati, and Itanagar — will also invite to take participate in Smart City competition. In January, the government started planning on the flagship of 100 smart cities plan via announcing the first 20. Bhubaneswar was topper of that smart city challenge competition. The government also provided another chance to 23 rejected cities in the first round to upgrade their plans and resubmit them till April 15, as an effort to fast track the process.
The urban development minister Naidu informed that the new urban area initiatives of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation, PMAY (Urban), Start City Mission, Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Heritage Development and Augmentation Yojana and Swachh Bharat Mission have a total spending of 18 crores. Soon, you can see the transformed version of shortlisted 13 cities. The mission will help to make India more smart and advance.
